This article title might confuse some of my dear readers, well, let’s get some history out of the way; I was originally tempted to call this article “My Eyes are Closed” as a reference to the iconic quote from Rion Vernon’s character Dr. Steel

Yet I then saw an extended cover by SAMonWRY of “Floop’s Song (Cruel World)” by Danny Elfman, there was one line that stood out:
“it’s a cruel cruel world
and you are a precious pearl
if you set aside the bad ones
it is almost worth another
clean your eyes you’ll see
it is not what it seems”
Sadly that seems to be what a lot of developers and Linux users are having to deal with lately from the toxicity of RedHat Project, NIX OS [whom I refuse to deal with despite trying out NIX OS on my rugged laptop their forums are a cesspool] even some key people on the kernel mailing list but there is hope. The Omacom Foundation founded August 2026 by David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), creator of Ruby on Rails, who’s fed up with the people forcing ideology and committees upon committees just to get anything done.
Sometimes you need a project and foundation whose key focus is making good software that isn’t demanding to appease some borderline cultish ideology about focusing on a single language like so many Rust developers I’ve met over the years.
Now what do I think will happen? Well, Omacom Foundation reported in their main blogpost about fundraising
“The Omacom Foundation’s funding has just hit $10 million with two new Founding Patrons joining the mission: Drew Houston, cofounder and co-CEO of Dropbox, and Peter Steinberger, creator of OpenClaw.” – Omacom Foundation funding hits $10m [August 24, 2026]
Some might ask if I will move my main workstation away from Slackware? Hell no, I would not leave Slackware any time in the near future [or distant for that matter].
I might give Omarchy Linux a try in the future, but there are a few things I’d need to make it worth my while, primarily XLibre out of the box since Wayland has had some issues I’ve yet to get around to.
The Omacom Foundation says they’re planning to help pay for the development of Hyprland, the Wayland-based desktop manager they use, but I’ll have to wait and see if they really fix some of the accessibility and automation tools I use on a daily basis that just seem to break in Wayland due to its isolation methods.
Personally if I could use Omarchy Linux with XLibre and i3 Window Manager with the option to swap to NsCDE [Not so Common Desktop Environment] this could prove to be a nice mobile workstation OS while I try to fix my issues with Slackware and my “PublicSafety” rugged machine.
I just want to tell my fellow Linux users there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I’ll leave you with a link to both SAMonWRY’s extended version of Cruel World and the original since sometimes we need some whimsey.
